RIMOS – Central Data Pool for Public Transport

Intermodal Passenger Information 

RIMOS is a central data pool for passenger information in local public transport developed by Scheidt & Bachmann System Technik GmbH. Based on the VDV/SIRI standard, the system enables exchange of data between different modes of public transport within the same public transportation area. On the basis of real-time data, RIMOS provides information to passengers via displays or the internet concerning the current situation in the public transport services they may wish to use and all possible intermodal connections in their region. This system enhances convenience for passengers particularly at locations where different modes of transport converge, such as interchange stations, Furthermore, with this system it is also possible to provide up-to-date information as free-text messages on any display connected to RIMOS. 

Standardised Data Exchange

RIMOS replaces the purely bilateral linking of systems in public transport (RBL, information systems, display control, etc.) with a centralised system based on VDV 452, 453 and 454. All the systems connected to RIMOS exchange data according to a simple and standardised process. Thanks to the integrational approach of RIMOS, the customer’s already existing technology can be retained. Furthermore, already existing infrastructure, for instance operations control, passenger information or other timetable-oriented systems used by transportation companies connected to RIMOS are enabled to communicate with one another via the VDV 453 /454 standard.
