Simulation Systems – BEST Practice in Training and Planning

Confident and safe handling of railway operations – that is the task of train controllers in interlockings and operations control centres. To perform their task properly, train controllers must be optimally trained for their responsible work and interlockings must fulfil operational requirements. The operations and interlocking simulator BEST by Scheidt & Bachmann System Technik GmbH is the leading training system for interlocking operators in Europe. Every year, more than 7,500 train controllers in approx. 90 locations are trained using this simulation system. 

The BEST simulation system is also used in the planning and specification procedures for new control and safety technology. Operational testing prior to commissioning minimises cost-intensive alterations to already implemented interlockings due to requirements which were overlooked at the planning stage. The simulator is used for prototyping new systems to test the function and behaviour of new interlockings under realistic operational conditions and to adapt them to the requirements of the interlocking operators.
