Translink is an association of Dutch public transport operators and operates the national smart card system “OV-chipkaart”. With over two billion transactions per year, more than 14 million active cards and 60,000 field devices, the ticketing system has become very well established nationwide in the Netherlands.

Within the scope of a technological system modernization, Scheidt & Bachmann implements a hosted account-based ticketing platform. Thereby not only innovative ticketing technology is applied but also a completely new business model is introduced – Ticketing as a Service (TaaS) – whereby functionalities and services provided are charged based on actual system usage.
