Scheidt & Bachmann has evolved the local student programme "U-Pass" of Pittsburgh’s transportation service provider PAAC from manual handling to fully automated processing using ID-based ticketing features.

With relatively small effort interoperability was archived so that MiFare-based student IDs are also usable for public transport within Pittsburgh.
